Boggulavaga Medium Irrigation Project
The Karimnagar district is situated in Northern Telangana and its Head Quarter is 170Km away to the North of Hyderabad city. The river Godavari and its tributary Manair flows through the District. The population of the district is 38,11,738. The river Godavari separates the District from Adilabad District.
The entire District except 0.3% falls in Godavari basin and the balance 0.3% in Krishna basin. The District is surrounded by Medak, Warangal, Adilabad and Nizamabad Districts and Eastern part is bounded by Maharashtra State. The river Godavari flows towards East of the District. The District Head Quarter is connected by broad gauge railway line from Peddapally and is on the Rajiv Rahadari. The area of the District is mostly covered under Sri Ram Sagar Project. The "Sri Ram Sagar Project" is constructed in Nizamabad District across river Godavari about 146Km away from Karimnagar town to Irrigate an ayacut of about 14,00,000 acres in Stage I & II . The Stage I of Sri Ram Sagar Project ayacut is 9,68,640 Acres. There are 3 Canals in Sri Ram Sagar Project, viz. Kakatiya Canal, Saraswathi Canal and Laxmi canal. The major canal of SRSP is Kakatiya Canal which drops into LMD Reservoir constructed on the River Manair a tributary of Godavari as a balancing reservoir. The LMD Reservoir is adjacent to Karimnagar district. There are 3 completed Medium Irrigation Projects in Karimnagar district viz., Upper Manair Project, Shanigaram Project and Boggulavagu Project irrigating an ayacut of 13088 Ac, 5100 Ac and 5152 acres respectively.
